The scientific method is a process that can help you solve a problem or answer just about any question. The steps are question research, hypothesis procedure, data collection, and conclusion. Start with a question based on observations you've made. Choose a question to ask or a problem you'd like to solve. Let's go at this one. Will this slime feel different if we change the amount of one ingredient? Next, we need to do some research. This is where you gather information about your topic. We needed to find out how to make slime. We looked at reliable sources for recipes. We made this lime from glue, water, and borax. The next step is to make a hypothesis. Here you'll make a prediction, or an educated guess, about what will happen. Our hypothesis will be, the slime will act more like a solid. If we increase the amount of borax, think about your hypothesis as you design your experiment, you'll need a variable or the part that you change to best answer your question. In this experiment, we'll change the amount of borax used. Now we move on to the procedure. This is where you perform the steps you designed to test your hypothesis. Time to grab the materials and get started. Now we use two test batches of slime. And for each one we increase the amount of Borax, our test variable. Everything else stayed the same. Here's our original slime, the control batch. This one has two tablespoons of Borax. See how it stretches a lot and it doesn't hold its shape very well. Now let's look at test batch one. We increase the borax to three tablespoons. It's a little less stretchy, it breaks more easily, and it holds its shape. Better time for test batch two, We increase the borax even more to four tablespoons. This one breaks easily and look at that, it holds its shape the best. The next step is data collection. Here you'll record your observations and write down the results of the experiment. A table is a good way to organize your results. Be sure to record each batch what changed your observations. We'll use these results to draw conclusion. Finally, our last step is the conclusion. Use your observations to analyze the data and draw a conclusion related to your hypothesis. Our results show that adding more borax made the slime less stretchy and better able to hold its shape. Congrats. This proves our hypothesis is correct. The conclusion increasing the borax makes lime act more like a solid. Just remember these steps and you can use the scientific method to solve all kinds of questions or problems.
